My inspiration: Grandma’s dentures

New Berkshire dental denture partner

New Crown and Bridge Service

From an early age all I ever wanted to do was to take things apart and put them back together. I was fascinated with how things worked. In hindsight I was destined for a practical profession.

I decided to get into dentistry when I was a young boy; I saw my Grandma’s dentures, it may sound weird but I wanted to know how they were made.

My Mum started taking me to a dental lab after school to get some work experience. When I left school I started my 4 year apprenticeship at a dental lab in Reading. After that I went to Lambeth Dental College where I received a BTEC national Diploma in Science and Dental Technology.

I’ve been lucky enough to have worked in a few dental labs in the Berkshire area and have built up a wealth of experience in all areas of dentistry. I was head hunted to work in a well-established premium dental laboratory where attention to detail, fit and finish to the dental product was paramount. I spent the majority of my working life here and this is where I first met Jon Davey, now owner of the Berkshire Dental Laboratory (BDL).

I was always wanting more, never satisfied with just doing one aspect of dental technology, so I made sure I worked in all areas, went on courses and kept up to date with the latest technologies. I strived to further my knowledge base and skill level to make sure I could stay ahead.

Then late last year I bumped into Jon walking through Wokingham and we had a chat. Having now worked in dentistry for over 20 years, I had a wealth of experience with the best techniques, materials, CAD CAM, implants and knowledge of suppliers in the market. Following our discussion Jon and I decided to join forces to work on a wide range of new and exciting products for BDL. The Lab have made a considerable investment in the latest dental equipment. BDL now boasts a 3Shape scanner with the most up to date blue LED technology and multi-line scanning, as well as a new Ivoclar pressing furnace. You can see some of our new dental equipment below.

This hi-tech machinery presses crowns and bridges with a superior fit and strength than most ceramic crowns on the market. Our all-ceramic products are made of lithium disilicate and is radiolucent, which means it gives the best match with your own natural teeth. The transparent colour and lifelike shape means that it is unlikely to be noticed amongst your own natural teeth.

There is no metal alloy base with this crown which means no unsightly looking grey line around the gum line (Please refer to the images below). It offers the reliability of a more traditional porcelain bonded to metal restoration but also gives superior aesthetics and strength to make it one of the best dental restorations on the market.

Our new service is called BDL Ceramic. We supply the finest e.max crowns, bridges and inlays, Zirconia crowns, bridges and inlays, gold crowns and inlays, screw retained implant crowns and custom abutments. With the combination of my traditional hand-crafted skills mixed with our new 3Shape scanner and pressing furnace, the results are outstanding.
